The purpose of the Lifeguarding program is to train lifeguards to act with speed and confidence in emergency situations both in and out of the water. Topics include water rescue skills, surveillance and recognition, first aid, breathing and cardiac emergencies, CPR, AED and more. All courses have a minimum of 4 participants, and a maximum of 10.
Program Prerequisites:
Lifeguarding: (1) Swim 150 yards (continuous with breath control and rhythmic breathing using either freestyle or breaststroke), Immediately tread 2 minutes in deep water using only the legs, Finish with a 50 yard swim in the same style as the beginning. (2) Complete timed event in 1 minute 40 seconds including swimming to, diving and retrieving, and returning with a 10 pound object in 7-10 feet of water; Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
Waterfront Lifeguarding: (1) Swim 300 yards (continuous with breath control and rhythmic breathing using either freestyle or breaststroke), Immediately tread 2 minutes in deep water using only the legs, Finish with a 250 yard swim in the same style as the beginning. (2) Complete timed event in 1 minute 40 seconds including swimming to, diving and retrieving, and returning with a 10 pound object in 7-10 feet of water, and exit the water without using a ladder or steps; (3) Swim 5 yards, submerge, retrieve, and return with 3 dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4-7 feet.
Additional Modules Available: Bloodborne Pathogens Training, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto-Injector, Asthma Inhaler Training, and Tourniquet Application. These modules can add up to 3 hours of training to the time frame, and will cost up to $30 extra if choosing all modules.
Certifications are valid for 2 years.

Course length: 20 hours of in person plus 8 hours of online learning for basic lifeguarding course. Those seeking waterfront lifeguard add 6 hours of instruction time.
Cost: $250 per participant. Includes certificate cost, personal CPR mask, whistle, and hip pack.
Course length: 10 hours classroom instruction plus a skills review prior to the final written and practical tests.
Cost: $150 per participant. Includes certificate cost, personal CPR mask.
Course length: This does not include ANY instruction or review, but allows a CURRENTLY certified lifeguard to take both the written and practical tests for their 2 year renewal.

The CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers (CPRO) program trains individuals with a duty to act including lifeguards, EMS personnel, police, security personnel, firefighters and athletic trainers — to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over.
This course is also intended for individuals serving in roles that would be called upon to provide support in emergency situations, such as aquatic facility, gym/fitness club or community/recreation center staff.
Program Prerequisites: None
Additional modules Available: Bloodborne Pathogens Training, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto-Injector, Asthma Inhaler Training, and Tourniquet Application. These modules can add up to 3 hours of training to the time frame, and will cost up to $30 extra if choosing all modules.
